Frequently Asked Questions

  • A tea ceremony is a ritualistic practice centered around the preparation and consumption of tea. This simple yet profound practice ignites all your senses and cultivates moments of calm mindfulness.

It has been described as a visual delight and moving meditation, an invitation into presence, harmony, respect, gratitude and beauty.

The ritual affords you time to create space, which allows for moments of contemplation, deep introspection, tender emotion, quite clarity and profound stillness to arise.

  • No, tea ceremonies are non-dogmatic. It is inspired by tea traditions, mindfulness, inner stillness, and is open to all beliefs (or none at all).

  • Everyone! Tea creates connection with yourself, family, friends, partners & strangers. It offers you an alternate space, which supports contemplation, stillness and presence.

If you find yourself overstimulated, disconnected or imbalanced, tea can offer you a way back to harmony. People often leave my offerings with a deep sense of gratitude and surrender.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease and stillness. Approach this practice with an open heart and be prepared to sit in silence.

  • I will always encourage you to listen to your body and step out if needed, bearing in mind the ceremony is best experienced when you remain present. It is advised to go to the bathroom before the ceremony commences.

  • Once the first round of tea is served, I will make an upward gesture with my palms, signalling you can now receive your tea. We ask those in the first row to pass a bowl to the person sitting behind them. Simply place it on the mat for them to pick up. You can then receive your own bowl.

  • After you finish your bowl of tea, please carefully set it back on the table. If you are seated in the back row, place your empty bowl on the floor in front of you. The individual who served you will come to collect it and return it to the table, thereby completing the cycle.

  • There will be approximately 4 - 6 bowls served throughout the ceremony. The final bowl marks the close of the ceremony. If you can't finish any of the bowls simply set it back on the table to complete the round.

Through tea we cultivate presence

If you go beyond the 'process of change' in all psychological frameworks you inevitably come back to cultivating present moment awareness, otherwise known as mindfulness. A tea ceremony is a beautiful way to practice this. As you grow your awareness, you'll notice the sensibility of the practice weave into your everyday life. Cultivation of the here and now is profound and brings us back to 'being' rather than always 'doing'.

“Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves - slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. Live the actual moment. Only this moment is life”

— Thich Nhat Hanh

Reflections in a teacup

In the quiet cradle of dawn, where whispers weave through the air,
A kettle sings, pouring warmth into porcelain, a ritual rare.
Steam rises like dreams unfurling, a dance of water and light,
Each drop a gentle reminder, of the cyclical day and night.

As the tea swirls in its vessel, rich hues like sunset’s glow,
A sensory awakening unfolds, inviting you to slow.
The aroma lifts your spirit, floral notes, and earthy tones,
Each sip a reflective moment, a journey back to home.

In the stillness of the ceremony, mindfulness takes flight,
A canvas for the heart and mind, painted in soft, gentle light.
With every pour, a heartbeat, a rhythm, a sacred pause,
You listen to your body’s whispers, a dialogue without cause.

This ritual, a visual art, where the water's dance is free,
Creates a spacious sanctuary, where your soul can simply be.
In the warmth of the cup, find solace, a soothing embrace,
Each ceremony a return, to the self, a sacred place.

So let the world fade softly, as the elements intertwine,
In the elegance of tea's embrace, let your spirit brightly shine.
Through the cycles of this moment, find the whispers of your call,
In the heart of the tea ceremony, discover the essence of it all.
